Toyota makes a tough truck. They last, and they work well. I've got three 1986 models. Two are 1-tons, and the third is a 4x4. Got 360,000 miles on one of them. That said, the Tacoma is one of the lighest weight trucks Toyota ever built. It also has about their worse repair history. Far better then just about anything comparable domestically built, but they are not the pinical of Toyota. If you want a family hauler, you may want to look at the Tundra instead. It's larger by far, with a lot more engine and capacity. It's also the best truck for safety, bar none.
