F-M Magneto Dissasembly Questions.

Took the mag for my Allis-Chalmers WF apart to clean it up. The armature doesn't seem to want to come right out of the housing. Got the seal out but it has a seal holder staked in behind it. Tried a few wacks with a plastic hammer but no luck. Is there a snap ring behind the seal retainer or is the shaft just a tight press fit?
Also was wondering about timing the gears. Label says there should be two letters on the large gear but mine has just a scratch mark on it. I imagine I set the scratch at the beveled tooth of the small gear but would like to hear from somone that has been down this road before. Any other tips would be appreciated! Thanks, Chris
