Not really sour on the early deere tractors as I still own and use them. I just have little patience for those who claim they were Gods greatest gift to mankind. They were pretty good tractors, but had their share of problems. As I stated, the 24V system was very flawed while most other brands used a reliable 12V system, the gas engines were incredible fuel hogs, the hydraulic pumps were very noisy and would overload the starter as it had to turn the engine AND power that pump as it climbed to 2000+ psi,The hydraulic valves and steering pumps were very complicated and in need of overhaul and precise adjustment every few years, or the valves would leak and constantly allow an impliment to creep up or down. Did I mention that you need to disconnect the hyd pump to replace a simple fan belt? Name anything better built in 65? well, the 806 has a more fuel efficient engine that was just as long lived as the 4020 engine,10,000+ hrs. Oliver had a much better transmission and hydropower system for use with pto equipment. Most any other brand had a stronger fron axle/spindle system than a 4020 if you mounted a front end loader. The syncro range tractors would not pump enough oil to fully raise a loader of the trans was not in nuetral with the clutch engaged to run the charge pump. The 4010-20 front spindles were the same as a 2 cyl 50-60-70 ? and very weak for loader work, a common conversion is to fit a case axle to them which eliminates the breakage. Other brands lacked some features deere had,but were far better in others. There is no best tractor, they all have their strong and weak points.
