Used to do that on old chevy cars/pickups, use the 6V generator with a 12V regulator. The generator will struggle a bit,but will work on 12V. Regulator life will be a bit shorter because of higher current draw of the 6V generator fields running on 12V. The Delco 1 wire alternator needs neg ground. To convert to neg ground is simple and costs nothing but an hours work. 1 reverse battery connections 2 Reverse connections on the amp guage. 3 reverse primary connections on the coil if battery ignition.
