A certain amount of noise is inherent in the WD rear end and transmission due to the straight cut gears. I am with old however that checking the bearings and gears would be a good idea. 2nd and 3rd were the most used field gears and I would suspect have never been touched in your 56 year old tractor. Call your local AGCO dealer and price a real service/repair manual there. They are pretty afordable. I doubt that rearend replacement will be required, but gear replacement can get pricey.
