I have Fords and have had Massey's. Some used thick oil and some thin. Some had one oil compartment which served transmission/hydraulic reservoir/differential, and some had separate chambers for each, and had heavy oil in the trans and diff and light oil in the hydraulics.

Today the heavy oil is 80 or 80w or 80w-90 or 90 GL-1 (mineral oil) available at rural auto parts stores for about $20 per 5 gal. Don't use GL-5 as it is said to contain sulphur which can attack brass in your tractor.

The light oil meets Ford spec xxxx134xxx and is sold by lots of folks as "Trans/hydraulic fluid". It also sells for about $20 per 5 gal. The lable will usually say that it is good for JD, Case, IH, Oliver, and Ford and it should at least include a spec mentioned in the Ford section inclusive of the numbers 134.

Go to your Ford dealer and get an after market maintenance manual for your particular "Ford 3000" which costs about $20. In there (takes some looking) it either says Ford spec xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with no 134 mentioned (which is the heavy oil) or it says use Ford spec xxxxxxxxx134xxxxxxxxx which is the light oil.

Clue: The light oil is the only oil used in the hydraulics due to viscosity change in winter making them unusable.

Either may be recommended for trans and diff.

Consult your book.
