Ford used the 6.9L in one ton and smaller trucks. I can not ever remember it in any larger trucks. For the 600 - 800's they used the V-8 Cat or simular. While I do not know the exact reasons, (power; durabilty) I think if the 6.9L would stand up in a 800; Ford would have used it as they owned the IH motor but had to buy Cat and others.
