Sounds like you have an 8 speed and live PTO with a problem. Either the external clutch rod is in the wrong hole, the freeplay is too great, the PTO disc is stuck, the transmission disc is worn thin, or one or more of the pressure plate links are broken. I can't imagine any scenario where a transmission driven PTO would grind and not engage when the single disc clutch was disengaged and the transmission was able to be shifted. Can you feather the clutch and have the PTO engage?
