Looks like the VAC crack has reached California. I failed to notice the 8"x4" dirty sheet metal behind the carb when I bought my '55 VAC. It was held on by the bolts of the air cleaner. Beneath the plate was a 7" long weld. So far it hasn't leaked.
I don't know where the tractor started life, but the area where I got it has average low of 37� and a record low in 1950 of 21�.
How much below 32� overnight will it take to crack a block with no AF??
I don't know if the guy I got it from knew of the crack, but he did use it for disking. He also owned a used car lot....
