Had some moisture damage to the sheetrock in the laundry room and to prevent it from happening again, I ripped out all sheetrock 48" up from floor, natural joint line, and replaced with 1/2" ply then onto that I tacked a bead board looking ply that was sold in 4'x8' sheets cut in half by Lowes, point of purchase, so that it would look like wainscoating. The first level of ply was just to bump out the bead board just proud of the remaining sheetrock. Easy to do and finished with a honey stain and poly.
