I retired from the AF Oct 2002, I filed all my VA paperwork and they had me come in and take another physical, which was a waste of money because I just had a retirement physical in Sept 02 got a letter in April 2003 and had my 70% disability retroactive to Oct 1, 2002 by May 5, 2003 and received my back pay also. They even sent me a letter explaining what percent was for what and "if" I felt I needed more to call and get another appointment and they would re-evaluate. I really can't complain- - - and won't!
