Richard: The IH Cub is one of the most popular tractors for this application, with good reason: excellent maneuverability, reasonable power, easy to get parts for, and good visibility. I love my '58 Cub for mowing--I've got about 1 1/2 acres, and it's just the right size. I use a 5' finish mower (belly mount) on mine, though that's at the upper limit for the Cub's horsepower, particularly if I don't keep on top of the mowing. Other good choices are Farmall A's and Super A's, the Farmall B, and even the C and Super C. All are well-engineered tractors, and will work well for what you have in mind. Moving up the Farmall food chain, the newer models--130, 140, 230, 240, etc. are even better--they're a bit newer but basically the same tractor. Other tractors to consider are the small Fords (8N, 9N, and 2N), and the smaller Case, Massy-Ferguson, and similar. All can be adapted to work with belly mowers, and all have proven records of reliability.
