No different than a middle aged to senior male at his peak earning years trying to buy back his youth. There is a market for 20 to 40 year old cars for restoration as well. Can't give away prisine Model T,A's even 57 Chevies etc. Guys who bought them new or drove them as kids are dead from old age now.
2nd group of collectors just want to keep a piece of Dad, Granddad or uncle alive in a peice of machinery they had.
