In an article in the Montreal Gazette newspaper one of the sports writers mentioned that the idea for an outdoor game was proposed by Oiler Kevin Lowe. This player is native to my hometown of Lachute, Quebec. His father was co-owner of Lowe Bros. Dairy. Behind the dairy plant the Lowes senior always had a NHL size outdoor rink. All of the local kids and especially the farmers kids were invited and taught the skills of skating and hockey. Just last week Kevin Lowe's mother died; his father this past August. Many players now and of days gone by in the NHL have spent time on the L0we Bros. Dairy ice at Lachute.
