I'm no welder, but being able to strike exactly where you want is a great help and the 'several tacks at a time' without the trouble with removing the helmet to check every position, makes for a much better job and is so much easier for me.
Get one with a suitable darkness adjustment for your range of work. The really cheap ones don't have it, or are not too stable.
I opted for a battery operated one rather than the solar cell, as I prefer to use rechargeable batteries around the home.
Also, the actual helmet is part of the price and these can be rubbish on some. Better to try the one you are going to get, rather than find the adjusment is uncomfortable or downright impossible. The welding window is small on some of the cheaper ones and I would not recommend them.
Basically, you pays your money and.....the more expensive ones are probably worth it in the long run, depending on how much welding you do.
