If I put a truck in my local paper for a week it costs me about that whether or not I even get a phone call. Compare the coverage you get on ebay (worldwide) to your local daily newspaper. I might suggest respectfully that if you did not receive any bids, your minimum was too high or your photos were not clear enough or didn't show enough detail to entice someone to bid hard earned money. I've sold everything from yard sale trinkets, to an Audi A4. The key, I find, is in good pictures and a clear detailed description. The commission charged by ebay on the stuff I sell isn't near as big as the commission I got charged at the equipment auction last week when I sold a scraper blade. The biggest hindrance to selling big ticket items on ebay is transportation. I can sell a CD and ship it in a padded envelope for $2. How do you get a tractor or truck from Utah to Maryland? It kind of cuts down on the number of people willing to bid. And it reduces the amount a potential buyer is willing to bid, figuring he needs to save some money out for shipping. Still, I sold my old '68 Chev pickup to a guy in Houston and got more money than I ever planned to and the buyer was happy to buy a plane ticket to SLC and drive it home.
