Hey Glen!! I just hate doing this 'cause I know I come off sounding like a big-mouth. However, almost all block heaters nowadays use a built in thermostatic switch. It is part of the heater wiring. Plug one in sometime and listen to it; it comes on and it shuts off. It does not run all the time, but rather regulates itself by the coolant temp. They are cheaper to run than one might think. Allan
