I just hate doing this 'cause I know I come off sounding like a big-mouth.

However, almost all block heaters nowadays use a built in thermostatic switch. It is part of the heater wiring. Plug one in sometime and listen to it; it comes on and it shuts off. It does not run all the time, but rather regulates itself by the coolant temp.

They are cheaper to run than one might think.
