I don't know much about the companies willingness/ability to pay for claims. My step-mother has some insurance with this company though. I don't know what State you are from, but here in Illinois there is a "Dept. of Insurance" that is very consumer friendly. You can check out any insurance company that does business in the State of Illinois through them. Every insurance company that does any business in the State has to go through this department for licensing. Maybe your State has a similar department. And By The Way... Anyone that ever has a problem/conflict with an insurance company (in this State) can really get an insurance companies attention by threatening to contact the IL D. of Ins.. Just the treat of bringing the department into the situation will be enough to get the insurance company to settle up. I know from first hand experience. I seriously threatened to call the Dept. onetime when I had a dispute and could get nowhere with an agent... that agent about swallowed his tongue!
