OC3 Wide Track Crawler Clutch Problems

While attempting to dig out a small pond, my OC3 suddenly decided to start grinding when I tried to shift gears. I lowered the speed thinking that the clutch was slipping and I might be able to get it in reverse to get out of the hole and back to the shed. This however didn't help. After hooking several chains together I pulled it out with the M. The clutch pedal moves in and out with ease, too easily that is. Does anyone have a feel for what is going on.
