The bigger ones have a 24 Volt cranking circuit which uses two 12 volt batteries run through a "black box" situated between the two batteries behind the seat. The black box has a couple of metal fuses in it. There is also a "ground out" button generally located behind the seat and to the right. This is a complicated wiring system that can be eliminated by using a 12 volt starter and getting rid of the black box and the ground out button. If the tractor you are talking about is one of those little air cooled utility jobs, then disregard this message as have no clue about what kind of wiring they have.
