brush hog driveline winding weeds

Been mowing weeds with a 2N ford and a 5 foot mono brush hog. The driveshaft keeps winding up weeds .I stop and cut them off and 5 minutes later it is back to 18 inches around. I thought the old shaft was to blame because the shield was gone off it. I bought a new driveshaft with the plastic shield on it and it does the same thing. Anybody else had this happen? What did you do to fix it? Oh yea. I have used this hog on other tractors for ten years and it didnt wind up the weeds ever.
