Been mowing weeds with a 2N ford and a 5 foot mono brush hog. The driveshaft keeps winding up weeds .I stop and cut them off and 5 minutes later it is back to 18 inches around. I thought the old shaft was to blame because the shield was gone off it. I bought a new driveshaft with the plastic shield on it and it does the same thing. Anybody else had this happen? What did you do to fix it? Oh yea. I have used this hog on other tractors for ten years and it didnt wind up the weeds ever.

Their right chris.. The plastic shield should not be turning! get some chain, and drill a holl on the top end (tractor end) and strap the chain up to some part of the tractor. i clip mine to the lift arm, next to PTO shaft. That'll stop the problem, the other recccomendation I could make, is maybe you cold mow earlier before things get so deep. I fiind that even though I have to mow more often, the mowing goes alot fatser with less problems that way, plus if there is debris in the grass, you'll be able to see it before you hear it, as it thrashes

If you bought a new shaft with the gaurd it should have came with a chain. The plastic sheild has an eyelet to hook the chain and the mount to a brace on your hog or if its at the other end one of your lift arms. the chain is about the size of dog chain or smaller.

i have a to-20 that i use and with the over ride clutch the weeds and grass would wind. so i got a peace of plastic about 3ft. long 12in. wide and under your 2n there should be two bolt holes right under the pto i bolt one end under the tractor and set the other on top of the hog deck it just lays there and will flex when you lift hog. i cut 6ft. canary grass and never have any winding

Did you hook the chain up to keep the plastic gaurd from spinning? Mine still gets some but doesnt ball up.

Thats the problem! prevent the guard from turning. It is a common problem with PTO driven hay mowers, tedders etc. If you let it continue grass may get wrapped around the tractor PTO and knacker the seal. I had that happen on a MF 135. The chain snapped on the PTO guard when hay turning and within minutes the tedder's PTO shaft looked like an Allis Roto bale!
