Have a question about selling on auction

I see a lot of tractor listings on this site and e-bay with a starting price of a few dollars or so and no reserve. That seems very risky to me but all seem to get a lot of bids. If I did that I'm sure it would get one bid at $10. Just something I've been wandering about. Anyone here list that way?
