Problem Re-Installing Hydraulic Lines

I know this is a dumb question......but, after having my Great-Bend loader off for several months for the first time, I am now having a terrible time getting the lines back on. The connectors used are "standard" quick-release types that have an outer sleeve that that is spring loaded that you can move forward or backwards a bit. Inside you can see a dozen or so ball-bearings that get retracted when you move the sleeve. I can get the connector in about 95% but it will always pop back out. I have tried all four lines with no luck. I made sure all mating parts are super clean. I moved the stick around to loose any residual pressure. What am I doing wrong??
