Does the tractor sound ok? It is normal for that to happen. You really can't use a timing light(if you are using one) to adjust the timing. I had a M engine put together and I timed it with a light and it ran ok,but sounded like it was under labor even with it just sitting there at low speads. I go by sound to make adjustments. If you have something too hook up to the belt pulley that works great. Or a dyno if you can find one. You can just stand there and turn the mag/Dist a little untill it sounds just right. I hope this helps. Maybe someone out here can give a more scientific way on why it don't work with a timing light or why the markings get farther away the faster it runs.
