Ross - Welcome to world of old tractor restoration! Your machinist skills will come in handy I can guarantee!! Only things you need to change for a conversion is to swap all the light bulbs for 12 volt bulbs (if your tractor has lights). And if you have coil and distributor (not magneto) ignition you need to add a ballast resistor in series with the coil primary, or else replace the coil with an internally ballasted "12 volt" coil. Incidentally you really didn't need to do anything to you 6 volt starter for it to work on 12 volts. It will work fine and enjoy a long life so long as you don't abuse it.
