In 1914 the Townsend Mfg. Co., Janesville, WI, began producing a tractor powered by a gas engine. This was one of the last gas tractors to retain the outward appearance of a steam traction engine. The company was later taken over by the LaCrosse Boiler Company, LaCrosse, WI.In 1915 they produced the LaCrosse(Happy Farmer).
