Long Tractors

My son in law has a chance to buy a 1970 Long 460 Tractor for $500. He said it's a diesel, runs good, has good rubber all the around, and the sheet metal is in fair shape. The only thing that he found that does not work is the 3pt hitch. What we would like to know is, would this tractor as I have described it be worth putting time and money into and what would be the first thing to check concerning the hyd system? I posted this on the other forum but have not gotten a response yet. Thanks for any input and advice on this
