help on repairing my farmall m

My farmall m has been sitting up for two month after having the starter rebuilt. When I try to start it the engine turns fast but fails to start. I also see smoke coming from the starter, and the wire from the ignition to the starter smokes. I replaced the wire and checked to see if the carburetor is getting gas, but still no luck. My mechanical abilities are not the greatest, but I love my M. Is there anyone who can give me advice on what else I can do to get it running. Any help would be deeply appreciated.
