Another steel quetion

A friend of mine has a fuel tank (diesel), about 1000 ga. which has been empty and sitting for about 10 years. I want to use it an a big sump(catch basin), of course I'll clean out the inside properly and paint it first. The problem is I need to cut one end off and I don't want to kill myself in the process. I've used tanks like this befor but they were already cut open and rusted out when I got them. Any advise on what to do and what not to do would be greatly appreciated,- especially if you have actually cut into an old fuel tank, your response would suggest that you still have at least one finger after the explosion. HA HA. I do reaslize this could be very dangerous and people have been hurt. Thanks in advance for the info, Grant.
