By all means verify the igniton system. But my experience with the the older Wisconsins, especially the V-4, is that the heat boils the gasoline in the carburetor bowl when the engine is stopped and this floods the engine. Lots of black smoke when the engine starts again if still warm. I know of no cure, but a test would be to get the engine hot, shut off the fuel and let the engine run the carburetor dry. Then turn the fuel back on and immediately crank the engine. If it starts better, the hot carburetor probably is the cause.
