A word of caution in the US. In the south they are still cranky about the outcome of the civil war. They may think you are a d*mmed Yankee and rough you up.
They call chips = "french or freedom fries", wellies = rubber boots, lorry = truck, boot= trunk, bonnet=hood, they drive on the right side so don't get run over crossing the street and they serve beer cold. A request for bangers and mash in restaurants along with spotted dick will draw blank stares or get yourself kicked out.
All in all however the colonies are a fine place to visit. The percent of the population that is middle class and own their own large properties/vehicles will be a surprise. The time an distance just to cross a state let alone the country takes so getting used to as well.
A trip to Canada will find lots of Liz and Phil fans.
