I am not an expert but have done this trick before. Your crank should have the left throw farthest away from the camshaft gear when the timing mark on the cam lines up on the crank gear. Beyond that, you need to make sure your governor right side marks are horizontal when you are at LH impulse on the fly wheel mark. Trick is to make sure your flywheel is in time to the crankshaft. Should be a v mark on the crank for that purpose. Also, your clutch drive disk is counter balanced against your flywheel to reduce the vibration so might check that as well. If you have a shop manual for the JDB, they are quite helpful. I think the manual number is SM2004 or something like that. Good luck.
