Don't forget the final drives too. take off pans, clean them, put back on, add oil to bottom of fill plug in pan. On the hand clutch, the dragging is caused by thick oil between the clutch plates. As a kid the 45 on the farm I worked on had 20 weight oil in the transmission to prevent slippage of this clutch, and the story was that the dealer said that AC allowed this if there was any problem with slippage. You might try "tractor lube" an all purpose transmission, rear end, hydraulic, power steering, oil. It is thinner. Maybe someone else would comment on how it works in a WD/ WD 45 transmission. The transmission, pto, and rear end are all lubed by the same oil, in the same gear box. It is connected internally so the oil can flow from one to the other. You do need to daain all three areas using the 3 plugs, and you need to fill using both fill plugs or it will take forever for the oil to work it's way to the proper level in all areas of the transmission. Yes, get the owners manual, and also a maintenance or repair manual, worth the price, will answer a lot of questions for you. And last, a 45 is a great tractor, take care of it, enjoy it, and work it once in a while too.

Today's Featured Article - New Hitches For Your Old Tractor - by Chris Pratt. For this article, we are going to make the irrational and unlikely assumption that you purchased an older tractor that is in tip top shape and needs no immediate repairs other than an oil change and a good bath. To the newcomer planning to restore the machine, this means you have everything you need for the moment (something to sit in the shop and just look at for awhile while you read the books). To the newcomer that wants to get out and use the machine for field work, you may have already hit a major roadblock. That is the dreaded "proprietary hitch". With the exception of the ...
