rear end troubles

My tractor towing vehicle a 80 F350 4x4 with a Dana 61 rear has a little problem. The ring gear is eating the pinion. Is this a do-it-your-self job? Professionally rebuilt $800-900 get a junk yard rear and install myself $400 rebuild $400 - 500 (parts $250 - $350 and the dial ind $40 and the press $120). Suggestions?
