Allison Tranny

Not a tractor question, so if you have a suggestion where I should go I would appreciate that as well. I recently traded a 2500 6.0L gas burner with 4 speed auto tranny for a 2500 Duramax with 5 speed Allison tranny. Problem is that I am not exactly thrilled with the tranny operation under heavy load a moderate speeds. There is a tow/haul mode button which delays shifting but still allows OD(5th)easy enough. This leads to a weak pull or lots of shifting on anything but flat land. When I shift the lever down to the nest setting, "3", this gear is to low for continious highway speed. 4th gear would be great if I could keep it there. My options are D,3,2,and 1 on the shiftlever and a button to change the shift curve in tow/haul mode (does not lock out OD). Is there anything reasonable I can do to lock out OD on this tranny? I am kinda thinking I would like my money back for the 5 speed Allison option.
