Don't know what it is, but is extremely unlikely to be fuel pump or carb problem. I have the same problem with my 63 Corvair Spyder with a single barrel Carter carb. I have rebuilt the carb, and replaced the fuel pump twice. Still does it. Runs ok otherwise, just an awful lot of contamination in the crankcase. The longer it sits, the worse it gets. Haven't been able to get to the bottom of it yet.
