Over the winter I wouldn't be afraid to use it, the hot weather evaporates off the lighter elements, ketones, etc. The gas today is much more a blend of different properties, for economy etc.. 25 years ago, a car with 2 year old gas would probably start and run. Today, it is pretty iffy if the gas will stay good more than 4 months or so. It is all in the blend of additives that the oil company put into that batch. At the extreme end, we had in the shop a mustang that had sat in a shed for one year. Not only would it not start, the fuel stank and the brass float in the fuel tank was eaten thru. Have seen fuel pumps on cars left sitting for a year or so destroyed. When gas completely evaporates away is when we get the awful gooey varnish that plugs carburetors and keeps things from running. Like the guy said, smell it, if it is stale, drain and refill. John in Ne.
