Hi rustyfarmall, That would only be for commerical carriers. You now might have to stop at the scales to prove your a private carrier like I did in Co. From what I've read Federal DOT is trying to address the hot shot "commerical" rigs. Another law I caught last year for Colorado DOT was they implimented the mfg. GCWR. The GCWR never was talked about or used by DOT for smaller tow rigs but Co. put in that if your "rated" gross combined weight is more than 26001/lb then you have to be licensed for that weight even if your carrying 1000lbs. This is apparently to keep people from registering under license weight then using the "back roads" where there's no scales. In AZ we have a RV DOT law that exempts us from commerical DOT rules upto 80,000lbs. T_Bone
