Keep in mind that H. Ferguson tractors are designed to run rich at low rpms so when working at normal 540 pto rpm the engine gets enough gas to aid in upper cylinder cooling to minimize burning valves. I suggest running the next hotter plug range for your light work, BUT, change back for heavy work. Oils- these engines have larger tolerances than modern engines and the synth stuff may be leaking by valve guides and/or rings. I follow the Ferguson recommendations and never need to top-off the oil between changes. I don't listen to shop mechanics over the Ferguson manual specs. The old guys were genuinely dedicated to making your machine last.
