Spark plugs under water

This is a bit off the straight "tractor" topic as it involves my wife's car but may interest some of you anyway. A few weeks ago I pressure washed the car underneath and around the engine bay as I've done on lots of cars with no trouble. It started fine and ran for about a month before she complained of a bit of a misfire. When I checked it out I found all four spark plugs actually sitting in water to about 2/3 of the way up the insulated part. I couldn't believe that it could run at all at all but water level must have been below the electrical bit, at least till it got heated up and made steam. - that's when the msifire started. It was ok when cold. Dried it out and alls well. Its a Ford with a double overhead cam so the plugs sit in a bit of a trough and the leads seal pretty good. Water was rust coloured and there was so much I could suck it out with antifreeze tester. Never seen that one before.
