Not to dampen your excitement about your find, but these types of things are pretty common to come across. The fact is, it could be one of thousands of types of braces or supports from any of hundreds of implements. What type of farming went on there in CT? Every time I break a field even on my own place, I usually turn something up that was used in the days when my farm was a cotton farm (farmed to death). A picture would really help but I would guess even if it can be identified, you could go to any farmers windrow of implements and find them by the wheelbarrow load. Good luck on your report.
