While I can't answer your hookup question about the newer Delco alternator, I can tell you you'll be glad you converted it to 12 volt. It brings the unit into the modern era, You can boost start it with another 12 V vehicle, or use it to boost start another 12 V unit. Any accessory you might want to us from a radio to a cigarette lighter to an electric sprayer pump is more readily available/cheaper in 12 volt. Outside of those that want to retain the pure originality of the tractor, I can't understand why anyone would advocate 6V. 8 volts is another nightmare... voltage regulator must be reset, batteries are expensive, and if generator or regulator give out, there you go again with expensive parts. A 12V battery of adequate size is cheap at a discount store, and a junkyard or rebuilt Delco 10 SI alternator won't set you back much.
