Dave,

Yes, the lift arms. I wan't paying attention when I typed my posting and now I am taking the ribbing. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to reply and thank you for sparing me another "shot".

The situation: the tractor is new to me (three weeks). From day one until yesterday when I mowed with the tractor for the first time, the 5 Ft finish mower would hold (up) as long as the engine was running, in gear, out of gear, ground or engine PTO selector. Once I turned the engine off though the mower would drop fairly quickly maybe 10 seconds from top height to ground. I mowed short grass for about two hours yesterday, temperature in the low 70s Deg F. At the end of two hours when I lowered the mower (engine running) it took approximately 30(+) seconds for the mower to "drop" all the way to ground level. No problems raising the mower though.

The tractor has received extensive electrical work in the last week or so, essentially a tune up, new starter, coil, and battery. I also replaced the ENGINE oil with 10W synthetic per the recommendation of a MF mechanic. The shared reservoir fluid is at an appropriate level and looks clean.

In short, yesterday's mowing suggests that the 3 Pt hydraulics slow when the tractor is hot. I was wondering "why". Its an old tractor; I don't have any problems with the mower dropping slowly, heck I hope to work as well as the tractor does when I'm 48. On the other hand, if slow 3 Pt hydraulics is a problem that may lead to something more serious, then I would want to know in order to plan/budget for a repair.

Once again, thank you.

Jim

Today's Featured Article - Field Modifications (Sins of the Farmer) - by Staff. Picture a new Chevrolet driving down the street without it's grill, right fender and trunk lid. Imagine a crude hole made in the hood to accommodate a new taller air cleaner, the fender wells cut away to make way for larger tires, and half of a sliding glass door used to replace the windshield. Top that off with an old set of '36 Ford headlight shells bolted to the hood. Pretty unlikely for a car... but for a tractor, this is pretty normal. It seems that more often than not they a ...
