For tough conditions i wouldn't waste my money on a garden tiller. (Woods, Bushhog, King Cutter ect..) You need a machine made to last and my choise is Howard!! (i have 3) For field work you want at least an HR 20 model, with selectatilth gear box!!
As for size, a 6 footer will use all of 55hp in some conditions, and less in others. Especially if you turn the tine speed up, and that's what the slectatilth gear box is all about!!
I NEVER till in pass', lowering my tiller a little each pass. If my tractor or tiller couldn't take a steady diet of full depth tilling on the first and "every" pass, i'd get rid of it and buy something that could!! My Agco has been takeing it now for more than 5 years, and i do a lot of custom tilling!!
No insult intended, but if the guts in your deer isn't heavy built in the pto drive line, you "will" be repairing it!!
You can pay more now for a good tiller, or you can buy parts later with a cheaper one, but you WILL hit trash, and when you do, all but the best will be junk in no time!
