That old JD 24V system is a battery eater because of the unbalanced accessory load on the two 12V batteries. They constantly overcharge the battery with the least accessory load and undercharge the battery with the most accessory load,which shortens the life of both batteries. Convert it to 12V with an alternator to cut your battery/electrical problems by 90%. The JD kit is complete,but very pricy. With a rebuilt starter and alternator from a starter/alternator shop or auto parts store you can do the conversion for around $200 excluding batteries,if you have some fabricating skills. The 24V harness can be used with only a little rewiring.
