Hi, Hope everything turns out for you in the long run. I have had good luck repairing cast manifolds cast front axles on H&M IHC with nickel welding rods. You have to follow preheating and cooling down procedures. There is three general types of cast iron. A good welder can tell you what type of cast you have with a grinder by looking at the spark pattern when he touches the grinder to the cast. You can also braze cast iron. There are a couple of ole boys up in Williston,N.D. who have repaired engine blocks for the local Cat. Dist. said were junk. So Iam sure there is a few in your area. Good luck to you in whatever you decide to do.
