Last weekend while loading silage with our I-H 350 High Utility, after making a turn the right front of the tractor went down on to the conctete of the trench silo. Upon investigation I discovered the bolt that goes through both tubes of the adjustable front axel had sheared off, allowing the spindle part of the axel to rotate. Since I was hardly moving the only damage was to the spindle steering arm,and we had it back up and in the shop in about an hour. If I had been going between farms or some other higher speed operation the outcome could have been much worse.Upon closer insppection the two 5/8" bolts that hold the axel clamps, on both sides, were found to be about half rusted away. These are the kinds of things that we never think to check, but should.
