Stan, I basicly agree with Steve & Fred. On an engine that is old use a low/nondetergent oil. When you are building up an engine use the best oil available. You pick your favorite flavor!!! But when I rebuild an engine, I learned to wash each and every part in hot soapy water ( use Dawn) iw cuts the thin layer of oil & grease that new parts have on them . Also any small metal fileings that could be on them. Dry throughly then start puttting your engine together. Then put in the oil of your choice. Good Luck, John A.
