Your right.... The 1586 has the 3X2 transmission but it was avail. with T/A, also has a very stout planatery final drive system, wet disc brakes all similar to the Deere. Neb. tested at 161 HP but People I worked with at Farmall told Me they used to see them run over 225 on the dyno. The 4440 would cost more probably to Buy, repairs would cost more, but resale should be more. Parts for a 1586 are easy to come by....Heck, Deere even advertises being "Brand Central" for parts for all colors....1586 will do more work but the 3X2 transmission does have some large gaps between speeds. If the 1586 is in decent shape, and You take care of it.... It may even appreciate in value. I agree with outhers Here.... You'd have to see both tractors to decide for sure which way makes the most dollars & Cents....

If you rebuild the motor, you could use hardened seats and valves, and unleaded fuel. But if your old tractor runs good, a simple lead substitute added to the gas is a perfectly reasonable solution.
